Un argument majeur pour la conservation d’esp\u00e8ces est l’importance de la biodiversit\u00e9\u00a0dans le d\u00e9veloppement de nouveaux traitements pour traiter les maladies humaines. Aujourd’hui, plus de 50% des\u00a0m\u00e9dicaments sur le march\u00e9 sont extraits de sources naturelles ou produits\u00a0\u00e0 partir\u00a0de produits naturels. Ici dans le Parc National de Coiba, il\u00a0a\u00a0\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9courvert qu’une minuscule cyanobact\u00e9rie, aussi appel\u00e9e algue bleue, produit un compos\u00e9 chimique qui a\u00a0\u00e9t\u00e9 prouv\u00e9\u00a0\u00eatre un agent anti-cancer potentiel puissant.<\/span><\/div>\n

Les plantes marines, les microbes, et les animaux produisent une grande vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de compos\u00e9s pour se d\u00e9fendre contre les pr\u00e9dateurs ou les rivaux ou encore comme moyen de communication chimique. Beaucoup de ces compos\u00e9s poss\u00e8dent un potentiel pharmaceutique, et quelques-uns sont aujourd’hui utilis\u00e9s comme base pour des traitements anticancereux et antiviraux. Avec plus de 200 000 esp\u00e8ces d’invert\u00e9br\u00e9s et d’algues d\u00e9couvertes seulement dans l’oc\u00e9an, l’environnement marin est une source d’une diversit\u00e9 chimique incroyable.

Dans notre Parc National \"\"<\/a>de Coiba, une esp\u00e8ce de cyanobacteria panam\u00e9enne a\u00a0\u00e9t\u00e9 collect\u00e9e et il a\u00a0\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couvert qu’elle produit un compos\u00e9 qui pr\u00e9senterait\u00a0des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s anti-cancer potentielles. En 2008, Dr. Kerry Mc Phail de l’Universit\u00e9 de l’Etat d’Or\u00e9gon, alors qu’il\u00a0\u00e9tait en train de plonger dans le Parc National de Coiba, a collect\u00e9 des algues bleues, ou cyanobact\u00e9ries, pour les\u00a0\u00e9tudier. Les scientifiques ont extrait\u00a0du specimen d’origine\u00a0un compos\u00e9 appel\u00e9 coibamide A, et dans les criblages et la recherche ont trouv\u00e9 qu’il a une capacit\u00e9\u00a0unique en tant que compos\u00e9 anti-cancer, qui fonctionne sur un m\u00e9canisme\u00a0qui n’est pas encore pr\u00e9sent dans les traitements contre le cancer existants.

Le succ\u00e8s de la coibamide A dans le ciblage et la destruction des cellules canc\u00e9reuses des glioblastomes, tumeurs c\u00e9r\u00e9brales qui n’ont que tr\u00e8s peu d’options de traitement, est encore plus excitant, car elles se d\u00e9veloppent rapidement et ne r\u00e9agissent pas tr\u00e8s bien aux m\u00e9dicaments chimioth\u00e9rapeutiques. Elle apparait\u00a0\u00e9galement comme pouvant d\u00e9truire les cellules de triples tumeurs n\u00e9gatives du cancer du sein, un autre type de cancer encore difficile\u00a0\u00e0 traiter.

La coibamide A continue d’\u00eatre\u00a0\u00e9tudi\u00e9e en tant que des scientifiques pour mieux comprendre comment elle fonctionne, comment elle pourrait\u00a0\u00eatre produite synth\u00e9tiquement, et si elle pourrait\u00a0\u00eatre\u00a0d\u00e9velopper comme un nouveau anti-cancer pharmaceutique.

Avec autant d’esp\u00e8ces de bact\u00e9ries marines et d’autres organismes inconnus et\u00a0\u00e0 d\u00e9couvrir, la biodiversit\u00e9 de nos oc\u00e9ans pourrait avoir le potentiel d’ouvrir les secrets pour traiter beaucoup de maladies qui sont les plus d\u00e9vastatrices aujourd’hui.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
